Glucofast is a carbohydrate hydrolysate (maltodextrin) with a glycemic index of 115.

Product details

Glucofast is a carbohydrate hydrolysate with a glycemic index of 115. Under isotonic conditions, it provides a greater amount of energy than a monosaccharide (glucose and fructose) and has an osmolarity of 100 mOsm/kg sol, which enables significant insulin modulation and massive carbohydrate assimilation. It is mainly used by endurance and strength athletes for its insulogenic properties and ability to replenish glycogen reserves. It can also act as a transport matrix for certain nutrients in the bloodstream, which are then introduced into the cells and used for muscle building.

Is GLUCOFAST a maltodextrin or a waxy-maize? What's the difference? What's in it for me?

Maltodextrin is available in 20 different molecular weights (from DE 1 to DE 20 - DE standing for Dextrose Equivalent).

From 21, the product is called glucose syrup and goes up to DE 100, which is pure dextrose.

All these forms can be hydrolyzed from starch, and usually from corn starch as this is the cheapest starch on the market.

With "waxy", the theoretical advantage is that you can consume up to 500g at a time without any osmotic problems in the stomach, and so maintain good absorption. With Glucofast (DE 18), you can ingest "only" 200g at a time without any osmotic problems... With dextrose it's only 50g.

But the question is :

Who ingests more than 200g of pure carbohydrates in one go?

Perhaps for Tour de France runners it's interesting to be able to ingest 500g of carbohydrates at once, in which case you need 1 to 3, but in practice this isn't realistic, and athletes prefer to hydrate and take their minerals and sugars in small portions throughout the effort.

• • Up to 50g dextrose is interesting
  • from 50g to 100g maltodextrin or glucose syrup (DE 20-25) are ok
  • Over 100g and up to 200g you need a DE 18 or below, but it won't do any good to go below DE 18.

    If in bodybuilding we commonly call DE 2 maltodextrin "Waxy Maize", you should know that this is just a chemical and technical term which can be used legally for all enzymatic forms of hydrolyzed corn starch from DE 1 to DE 100.

    We could therefore rename our Glucofast "Waxy Maize" and be in the right legally and chemically!

Directions for use

• Consume before, during or after exercise. Dilute 50g in 250ml of water. Because of its neutral taste, Glucofast can be mixed with your amino acids (BCAAs TST, EAAs TST, LEusteron,...), creatine or Whey protein to enhance absorption.
