Description

Prevents cardiovascular disease and dementia

Betaine has the special ability to break down homocysteine. Homocysteine is a non-proteinogenic amino acid, meaning it cannot be used to form vital proteins. On the contrary, homocysteine can do a great deal of damage to the human body.

If too much of it is present in the body, it can affect blood vessels, leading to cardiovascular disease. In addition, too high a level of homocysteine can contribute to illnesses such as depression, dementia, eclampsia, neural tube defects and macular degeneration. This makes it all the more important to keep blood homocysteine levels as low as possible.

TMG betaine can help. Since homocysteine is formed from the essential amino acid methionine, it can be converted back to methionine by methylation. This requires a methyl group. This is exactly what betaine can provide.

TMG Betaine: a wide range of uses

In addition to reducing homocysteine levels, betaine can also influence various metabolic processes. Animal studies have shown that betaine intake can alleviate digestive disorders. In experiments, betaine intake increased the activity of the digestive enzymes amylase, lipase, trypsin and chemotrypsin, which are responsible for this effect. In one study, betaine was able to support the liver in fat processing.

TMG betaine is also of interest to athletes. Several studies have shown that taking betaine reduces the depletion of energy reserves, boosting performance and building muscle mass.
