Product details
Omega 3 and Omega 6 belong to the category of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), which are "essential" fatty acids as they play a major role in the body's equilibrium. Their absorption triggers a cascade of chemical reactions, with the help of several enzymes, that enable the body to manufacture substances essential to its proper functioning.
Alpha-linolenic acid is the leader of the Omega 3 family (linoleic acid for Omega 6). It is considered "essential" because the body cannot manufacture it, and must therefore obtain it from the diet, or through supplementation. From alpha-linolenic acid come the long-chain derivatives eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which are involved in a wide range of physiological processes.
