Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in Europe.
Around one in two people in Europe will be affected by the consequences of a cardiovascular disease such as stroke, heart attack or pulmonary embolism during their lifetime.
A fundamental process contributing to the development of these diseases is atherosclerosis, commonly known as hardening of the arteries.
Nattokinase is an enzyme isolated from fermented soybeans and considered a natural anticoagulant. The enzyme has fibrinolytic properties, i.e. it can dissolve blood clots and thus have an anticoagulant effect. This effect can manifest itself, among other things, in a drop in blood pressure. Initial studies suggest that taking nattokinase may have a positive impact on the risk of cardiovascular problems.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has also confirmed the safety of nattokinase-based products.
